Rule Changes for Spring 2009
WVSA and KVSL have adopted the following rule changes for Spring 2009. We are going to pilot using newer/younger referees at the U8 age group as means to train the referees and get the children familiar with having a referee. This will also take coaches off the field. There will still be no offsides at U8.
The second rule change will have a slightly more dramatic impact I feel. Substitutions will be allowed on any restart when the ball has gone out of play. So you can substitute on cornerkicks. KVSL reejected the WVSA change that unlimited substitutions be allowed on all restarts including direct and indirect kicks. Our reasoning was that a direct or indirect kick is a moment of advantage for the fouled team and this advantagge should not be forfeit.
Merger Update
Having met with the CLNPSA Board we have determined that an actual merger will take longer than just saying merge. Therefore we have agreed for the 2008-2009 season to cooperate at an unprecidented level. All SAYSA teams that were rostered in Spring 2008 will remain intact. U9 and above teams will play at Columbia Gas fields but will be allowed to practice at Pettigrew if they want. If they prefer to train at Columbia Gas will request training time. U8 and under will continue to play at Lakewood. There are new rules regard U8 and U7. There are no more dual sided games and the roster limit for a team is 10. As always every effort will be made to place St. Albans kids on St. Albans teams but if the limit is reached we will attempt to place that child on another team formed with Cross Lanes. We have always done this in the past, but it is official now. As we go forward with this creation of the Western Kanawha Valley Soccer Association I will attempt to keep everyone informed.
Where does the money go...
St. Albans Youth Soccer Association is the 4th largest club in the Kanawha Valley Soccer League behind CrossLanes, Great Teays and South Hills. We generally have around 250-300 children playing in any given season. Before I took the job of President of St. Albans Youth Soccer I wondered how all the fees were spent. So I decided to break it down as best I can.
Where your soccer fees go…
$60.00 – Fees for a entire soccer season. (Even if you play only the Spring we still charge full because we still are required to pay full amount for the uniforms and insurance.)
-$20.00 – Insurance. We pay Kanawha Valley Soccer League $20.00/child for insurance. We have to pay this or we cannot play with any other teams in the KVSL.
-$22.00 – Uniforms. The shirts and shorts cost $18.00-$20.00 a set and then we have them numbered. Additionally since we have to order them prior to the teams being configured we have to order extras.
So already we have $42.00 of the $60.00 spent leaving $18.00 for team equipment, field supplies, training camps and a capital fund to replace goals and other more expensive equipment.
As you can see there is no extra money and we put everything back into the program. If anyone has any questions or suggestions feel free to contact me. Michael Rudge
